Welcome to the Greenvale Sport and Game Fishing Club. 

We are a family oriented  recreational fishing club based in Greenvale a suburb of Melbourne Victoria. With over 120 active male adult members and 75 Junior members, we cater for all styles of fishing. As a member, some of the activities you can become a part of include; monthly competitions all over Victoria, monthly meetings in our clubhouse at Greenvale, monthly prize raffles, annual fishing trips interstate and abroad, annual Christmas party, annual Award presentation night. The club has regular guest speakers, the competitions are friendly, aimed at every paticipant to share and enjoy fishing regardless of skill level, there are many proficient anglers in the club that are willing to assist and guide.

 New Members Welcome, our club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month except January at the Greenvale Equestrian Centre on Section Road, you can find us on google maps.

On the friday there seemed to be a bite on both mullaway and bream, the bite was short lived and totally shutdown on Saturday and Sunday

With 22 Juniors attending it was a well executed informative night with all juniors assembling a skirted lure.

Eildon Houseboat Comp 2023

Huge success the every boat caught lots of small trout however the larger fish seemed elusive to all of us. Jermaine caught a whopping 99cm cod to top of the native section. We all enjoyed the spit BBQ on the Saturday night.

Unfortunately timing was not on our side for sufficient members to form a comp however members did get out when convenient.

A great weekend was had by all with endless captures of cod.

The following week members made the trip again in good weather every boat caught some kings.

2023 Portland Kingfish Competition

The weather wasn’t on our side rough weather and dirty water on the shallow reefs the Kingfish eluded us. Small kings were caught at the anchorage members switched there focus to Bluefin Tuna and everybody had a ball. A huge thank you to Allestree Holiday Units for the accomodation.

Jaden certainly suprised every body by capuring two big fish the smaller one taking out the junior competition and the 8.3kg snapper reserved for the snapper comp No1. recoring the biggest snapper for the season.

It was a tough weekend with only a few fish caught.

Trout Opening Competition Goulburn River Eildon Pondage 

A good turn out for the comp, the pondage wasn’t as productive as the river which produced most of the stonker trout 

Lake Purrumbete/Bullen Merri

Purrembete was hard fishing, with only three fish caught, Lake Bullen Merri was much more productive every boat capturing fish from 500gm to Jayden’s Comp winning 2.2kg fish. The boat ramp closed and the rain detered many boats from accessing the lake.

It was a very pleasent morning with bacon and eggs for breakfast and BBQ lunch. Fish caught on the small side with Mason taking out the comp.

 

Eildon Houseboat Competition 27th-29th May 2022

The club had three house boats booked from WatersEdge Houseboat Hire Lake Eildon, the weather was better than expected with cold mornings and the sun out in the afternoons. The fishing was slow however all boats caught fish the sizes in the high 30-low 40cm. It was a very relaxing and pleasent fun weekend using the houseboats as motherships on the water.

The weather was challenging at times during the Purrembete Competition, however the anglers young and old stepped up to the challange producing some good quality fish. A thank you to John Clements for sponsoring a Junior prize

A Great turn out, the boys searched for Pippies on the first day due to the weather, the next two days provided Tuna in the morning and Kings in the afternoon.

Snapper Season has started late, most members are now getting a bag or at least a good feed. Whiting is also going strong from Altona to St Leonards St Leonards being the hottest bite location.

 

September /October 2021 Lockdown

With the easing of some travel restrictions some members are able get the opportunity to fish especially members outside of Melbourne metro who could escape and enjoy trout opening and a good bag of squid. Ray managed to find Estuary Perch in the Maribynong river it’s a good sign of a healthy river.

Perfect weather, fishing was slow regardless everbody caught fish each day, lots of small salmon, most fish averaged 700-800 gram size all salmon except for one rainbow Joe Bailey had the biggest fish at 1.7kg

February Competition was cancelled due to weather

March Compeitions: Mulwala and Marlin

The Mulwala Comp was well attended, despite the best efforts by many the big fish did not come out to play, all members caught fish mainly in the mid 50’s

Marlin Comp

Only two boats and 4 members nominated to fish the comp unfortunatley the week was cut short due to bad weather however the boy’s saw quite a few marlin both on the surface and marking up, just after to new moon the fish were very doughy, reluctant to switch on, bait was plentyfull on the first day however very small and was difficult to get a bite, the next day the bait thined out and patches of larger bait was caught and the marlin happy to take a bait. Three fish caught serveral lost including a shark.

January 2021

Portland Competition 14th to the 17th of January 2021,   

Great start on wednesday afternoon before the comp with most boats catching a few kingfish. Thursday was an absolute ripper with virtually every boat bagging out on King fish. Most fish in the 70cm range and a few in the low 90cm range. Friday was blowen out with a cold front. Saturday and Sunday was a different story with dirty cold water and no fish. Only one fish was captured on Saturday and Sunday by Vince DeBono on live bait. A great time was had by all with lots of laughs and banter.

December 2020

Free of restrictions, members are chasing snapper.

The club will be holding an informal post Covid catch up on Friday the 18th of December, sausage sizzle and drinks. All members are welcome to come along for a chat. It will be held outside the club rooms to maintain social distancing regulations.

Competitions are back on Starting with Snapper competition 21st to the 22nd Nov 2020

Next comp will be a Snapper comp. Starts Nov 23rd til Jan 31st. Again measurement comp same brag mat process. Port Phillip bay and Western Port only.

October 2020 – Travel Limits extended to 25km allowed Members to access the bay.

Members Outside of Metro Stage 4 areas manage to capture some great fish, Metro Melbourne members permitted to fish withing 5km taking advantage of near by lakes.
